Bob - internal - article, and e- GFCI use by owners/contractors for outdoor water features (et al. else) -- 06/15/07 Bob -- I'm almost done with the second article on turtles outdoors. I'll want to forget about it for a few weeks and then tweak it for another one, so while it will be ready when you want it ... I'm in no hurry to send it. <This is a good technique Darrel> Anyway ... I have a research question that you might answer from your years of pond work. NEMA code requires that all electrical feeds for outdoor pools, ponds, etc. be GFI and I've always installed them via hard wiring (conduit to distribution boxes, etc.) but I know that Home Depot and Lowes sell outdoor extension cords and power centers that have built in GFI's. <Yes> I'd never install one as a professional or advanced hobbyist ... but what I want to know is ... are they legal? <For the home-owner to do, yes... but for another (licensed sub/contractor) no, not as far as I'm aware> Does an outdoor extension cord with built in GFI qualify?
