Pseudanthias bartlettorum (Randall &
Lubbock 1981), Bartlett's Anthias. Western Pacific. One of the
hardiest Anthiines for aquarium use. To three and a half inches in
length. Aquarium image of a male. Here at the Ripley's Aq. in Toronto,
Canada. 2015 |

The most popular Rhinecanthus species is immortalized in the
song of none other than Don Ho himself. This is the Humuhumu
nukunuku apua'a (literally "water pig with a
needle" in Hawaiian, in reference to grunting noise they
make and their spiny dorsal "trigger"), AKA the Picasso
or Lagoon Trigger (aka the "Blackbar" to science),
Rhinecanthus aculeatus (Linnaeus 1758). A juvenile of a couple
inches in captivity.

Rhizophora mangle, the Red Mangrove. Of the many species, indeed
families of mangrove trees, this is likely the most commonly utilized by
aquarists. Up to 22 meters tall in the wild, capable of breaking the
strongest of aquarium construction materials. Most common complaint is
loss of magnesium ions (along with sodium pumping), resultant calcium
imbalances in closed systems. Here above their SIO/Birch Aq. exhibit
