The Tubesnout Fishes, Family Aulorhynchidae

Aulorhynchus flavidus  

Another obscure family of "Tube Mouth Fishes", the Tubesnouts look like rigid, straightened out Seahorses, with their elongated bodies, bony lateral scutes. Two species, one on either northern Pacific coast.

Range:

Coastal North Pacific.

Aulorhynchus flavidus Gill 1861, the Tube-Snout. Eastern Pacific; Alaska to Baja. To seven inches in length. Found hiding in kelp beds, seagrass, rocky shores. Eat small fishes. Cool water species. Aquarium photo (Monterey).
