Missing "Presumably Dead"
Fish 4/8/12 Gecarcinus quadratus Molting and Care 4-2-2008 I have 2 Halloween land crabs <<(Gecarcinus quadratus)?>> I have 2 Halloween crabs and one of them shed last night for the first time and it looks as if all his legs are missing except for his 2 front claws. <<A bad molting; http://www.afsc.noaa.gov/Kodiak/shellfish/cultivation/crabGrow.htm .>> Do his legs eventually grow back in? <<Perhaps with a few successful moltings. What are you feeding? What is the environment? Consider soaking the food in a marine iodine supplement every so often. Read here; http://fireflyforest.net/firefly/2006/05/28/Halloween-crab/ and here http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/inverts/arthropoda/crabs/swcrabs.htm and one more http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/inverts/arthropoda/crustace.htm >> Thanks, <<Welcome.>> Angie <<Adam J.>> Anemone Crab Molt taking too long? 9/28/07 I have an anemone crab that I just purchased on Monday night. As soon as I introduced him/her to the tank it <?> ripped off both it's pincer claws within an hour. I would have thought the angry clown fish might have done this except I saw him do it to himself. I removed him to a tank by itself and Tuesday night it had begun to molt. Well now it's Thursday and he still hasn't finished the molt. The little guy has managed to get everything off but can't seem to jettison the old exoskeleton from the rear. He is still alive but hasn't eaten since he began this whole ordeal. I've never had one take this long so is this normal? Or is he in trouble? I think this was probably something he had started in the dealer's tank (and I didn't notice) and I hope by moving him I didn't sign his death sentence. Thanks for the insight Karen <Is highly likely either a lack of nutrition, dearth of iodine, and/or alkalinity/alkaline earth imbalance/paucity.
