Puntius denisonii, sys. 10/25/12
Hello. Is it possible for this fish to live in brackish water with a
specific gravity of 1.005?
<Mmm, this is too "salty" for this subtropical minnow for me... Will ask
our brackish expert Neale for his input though. Most specimens of this
barb are lost due to keeping it in too warm water in my experience
though. Bob Fenner>|

<<For sure a bad idea. As Bob says, this subtropical barb is mistreated
badly enough (read: short-lived) when kept in tropical freshwater
aquaria, let alone brackish water systems. There are some truly
brackish-tolerant barbs, Puntius Ticto for example, though these
shouldn't be kept in anything other than very slightly brackish systems,
around SG 1.002, 1.003.
As such, they'd be fine with Mollies, Glassfish, Knight Gobies, Spiny
Eels, and other fish that prosper best with a little salt in the water.
Cheers, Neale.>>
