Octopus cyanea, Gray 1929, the Common Reef Octopus. Indo-Pacific;
Red Sea to Hawai'i. Common reef species. This one in KBR, Lembeh Strait,
Sulawesi, Indo. |

Amphioctopus (formerly in the genus Octopus) marginatus
(Taki 1964), Coconut or Veined Octopus. Known for bipedal walking and
using/carrying shells about for shelter. Body about 3 inches long, arms
twice this long. This one in N. Sulawesi, Indo. |

Thaumoctopus mimicus Norman & Hockberg 2005. The Mimic Octopus. Celebrated,
though not as much as the Wonderpus (another Octopus sp.) for its
still and active posturings pretending to be a Mantis, Lionfish...
to avoid predation, sneak up on food organisms... N. Sulawesi |

Wunderpus photogenicus Hochberg, Normal & Finn 2006. Here is
the "king of mimic octopi" the Wonderpus... able to mimic many marine
creatures in a very short while... changing its repertoire if others
"don't work". A juvenile here in Raja Ampat, Indo.
