Yellow Tang - 10/15/06 Hi my name is Briena. I'm doing a science fair project on the yellow tang. Do you know who found the yellow tang? <Hi Briena... it's hard to say who first found the Yellow Tang; my guess is that it was some Hawaiian who ate it for dinner. What I can say for certain is that fish was first described for science by Bennet in 1828... quite a long time ago. Hope that is helpful - good luck on your assignment. Cheers, J -- > White variety, yellow tang I recently saw and photographed what appeared to be a color variant yellow tang in shallow waters of southern Maui. It was all white except for yellow front dorsal, pectorals, pelvics, and eye rings. White caudal fin. U of Hawaii and Bishop Museum folks (so far) have never seen a similar color variant. <Neat. Me neither... but have seen other "koi" varieties over the years, there and in the trade> I can send the jpg if anyone is interested. Does it ring a bell for anyone? I see various references to white versions of yellow tangs on the aquarists sites. But this seems to be a different pattern. <Does. Do send and I'll post. Bob Fenner> Earl Byron
