Family Dorididae... Halgeridae: Genera Halgerda, Sclerodoris, Aphelodoris, Asteronotus, Artachaea

Genus Halgerda: Typically smooth, hemispherical appearing, slimy to the touch. Rhinophores and gills white, with yellow and black markings. 

Halgerda carlsoni Rudman 1978. Northern Australia, Indonesia. To two inches in length. Black rhinophores and gills. Bunaken/Manado/Sulawesi/Indonesia image.

Halgerda malesso. Philippines, Indonesia, Guam, Mariana Islands. To 7 cm. Feed on sponges. N. Sulawesi pix. Note black emarginated rhinophores.

Halgerda terramtuentis Bertsch & Johnson 1982, the Gold Lace Nudibranch. Hawaiian endemic. Michelle Lemech photo taken there.

Halgerda tesselata, Madagascar, Thailand, Micronesia, Australia. To an inch and a half in length. Image made off of Pulau Redang, Malaysia. 

Halgerda species. Malaysia, Northern Sulawesi (possibly elsewhere in the Pacific). To about 3.5 cm. N. Sulawesi pic. 

Family Hexabranchidae: Monotypic; the Spanish Dancer. 

Hexabranchus sanguineus (Ruppel & Leuckart 1828), the Spanish Dancer. Large animal with a prominent mantle. A notable swimmer when frightened. Laminar rhinophores. Partially retractable second gills. Oral tentacles large, flap-like. Red Sea, Indo-Pacific, including Hawaii, Atlantic. Eats sponges, worms, slugs and echinoderms in the wild. This one photographed in the Cooks. Egg bundle in Malaysia.

Family Notodoridae: 

Notodoris (now Aegires?) minor Eliot 1904. East Africa to the Solomon Islands. To three and a half inches in length. Feeds on sponges. One off of Queensland, Australia, and a pair consuming an Alcyoniid soft coral in N. Sulawesi.
