Pocillopora coral <sexual>
reproduction?? 3/6/12
Hi,
I have a 340 gallons reef tank for few years. My total volume of
the water is about 500 gallons. Including a refugium , some reactors
and 4 Tunze wave devices and more. I just want to say that I have
all the necessary high-tech gears for my reef tank.
Today I find out on the glass have few baby corals that looks like
Pocillopora. Small but looks like my ORA Pocillopora.( I never fragging
this coral, I really don't know where the baby coral came from. )
Then I do research the Internet for the answer but nothing coming out.
And today I also find out my ORA Pocillopora seems quite stress, I see
some eggs???
coming out from the branch.
<Neat>
In this case, I assume they already spawn multiple time before...
Otherwise where is the baby came from?
<Either they're misidentified of from a sexual event in
place>
Did this event happen to anyone before?
<Every now and then, yes. Unusual in aquariums really only due to
their being too unestablished, having insufficient foods and having too
much mechanical filtration,>
Can you please give me some advise.
Thank you
Chen

Thank you for the answer!!
I still have few questions need to clean up, as below showing,
"Did this event happen to anyone before?
<Every now and then, yes. Unusual in aquariums really only due to
their being too unestablished, having insufficient foods and having too
much mechanical filtration,>"
However, my reef tank have established quite well(4 years). Water
parameter:
PH 8.1-8.2 , ORP 380 , Calcium 490 ppm ,
<... too high>
Nitrate 0 ppm , Phosphate 0 ppm ,
<Need some of both of these. Search, read on WWM re>
Salinity 1.025 , Magnesium 1300 ppm
<... out of balance w/ Ca>
I feed my fishes/SPS corals daily with mixed frozen foods with oyster
eggs from reef nutrition, Cyclop-eeze and phytogreen from
Brightwell aquatics, sea veggies seaweed flakes . Sometimes I adding
some newly hatched brine shrimp.
And the mechanical filtration that I have are calcium reactor
<... not a mechanical filter. Read on WWM...>
with some extra chambers & a good protein skimmer, I use
small amount of activated carbon occasionally. The only different of my
aquarium setup is no filter socks in my sump, because I believe
socks remove too much planktons from main tank. Without socks, my
corals and fishes are very health without any ill effect.
Thank you for your time to answer my questions!!
