Caulastrea furcata Dana 1846. Small
corallites (under 10 mm. in diameter). Septa are irregular, some
much larger (tooth-like) than others, sticking out. Have
distinctive "candy cane" appearance. Common in the wild
and captivity. Easily kept, cultured, reproduced by fragmentation.

Genus Hydnophora Fischer de Waldheim 1807,
Horn, Velvet, Knob Coral. Have short tentacles that originate at
base of their hydnophores. More than capable of strongly stinging
other sessile invertebrates. Eager feeders on sizeable meaty
foodstuffs. Easily reproduced through fragmentation of healthy
colonies. Perhaps this is H. pilosa. Raja Ampat pic. |

Genus Seriatopora Lamarck 1816, Bird's
Nest, Needle, Brush Coral. One of the easiest of genera to pick out
amongst the stony corals, with thin, pointed branches and the
family's easily seen verrucae. Raja Ampat 08. |
|
Seriatopora hystrix Dana 1846, the most
common Bird's Nest Coral. Needle like endings on variably
thick, twisted branches. Raja Ampat 08. |
