I don't know, it was bought from a store in Turkey.

Strange anemone 5/9/19
Hi guys, I had a hitchhiker anemone (I assume it’s an anemone)
<Looks like it... to me>
from a coral I purchased that has been slowly multiplying. It is not Aiptasia
and I don’t believe in majano either. It glows green and has feathery tentacles.
<Good description; somewhat arborose, tree-like; branching as they go outward>
Do you know what it is?

It stung the top of my finger and left a welt and a stinging sensation, I have
owned carpets, bubbles and Condys and never felt that sort of sting! Any ID on
it? (Last picture has about 6 on it) And should I try and remove?

New? BTA varieties? 5/12/18
Greetings.
It's the new variety of rare bubble tip anemones like Inferno, Flame,
Sunburst, Lemon drop, Rainbow. Where were these pretty color strains
earlier and how did they come about all of a sudden, is my question.
Could you throw some light in this regard?
<Strange... after decades in the trade, I never heard these names
applied to Entacmaea...
Looked on the Net, and do see such...
Know nothing regarding; have never encountered in the wild; though other
bizarrely colored specimens that I make out as BTAs.

Request for an article. Re "exotic" BTAs

Hearty greetings.
This is a request from just one amongst all the earthlings for an
article by the Veteran if & when he is pleased, to solve the eye
boggling mystery for the simple minded laymen behind the unrealistically
eye candy avatars of the much favoured Cnidarian (E. quadricolor)
emanating seemingly from some sorcery or discovery of some sort.

WWM pen such, it won't be me. (Again) I don't know the origin of these
Entacmaea, but I fully suspect they're man-made (not natural)... Have
seen comments re "Rainbow" et al. Anemones since 2007 or so... "From
China?"
Until I see these "varieties" underwater myself or see reports by
credible people re...

Majano? 4/28/18
Hi! I purchased some Zoanthids from a friend who was dismantling and were
impressed how healthy they had become. After feeling them I wondered if these
are the Majano Anemone.

They are confined to their original rock at the moment and don’t appear to be
hurting my bubble or Xenia. Should I get them out of there?

Anemone ID question 4/16/18

I came across this rainbow anemone
<Umm; not rainbow naturally. This specimen has been artificially dyed. Do NOT
buy it. DO read here: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/coloredanemones.htm
from a vendor and I’m not convinced they know what they are selling. They list
it is as a Thalassianthus type anemone, but it kind of looks like a hell fire a
little.
<Could be the former genus... the latter is just a common name that I've seen
applied to quite a few species.>
Do you know what species this is and how big they get. This is about 3” and do
you know if they are a fast grower? I do have various anemones (tube, rbta,2
rock, mini carpet) with fish and my fish are pretty good avoiding these without
touching them outside my trio of clownfish in the rbta. Will this be a big risk
for my fish since I had 0 causalities for years in an established 54 gallon
tank?
<I would NOT mix this animal in with what you have. Again, I would NOT buy it
period, as it has been artifically colored and is not at all likely to live;
being bereft of endo-symbiotic algae>

I just got off the phone with the vendor who hand picked this in Indonesia
(<Omitted> please do not post his name thank you). He mentioned that he does not
believed this was dyed and its the first time he came across this type of
anemone.

He said he had no issues with this place and he had been going to this place for
years to hand pick. He mentioned it being as close to a bubble tip anemone
potency vs. a carpet. I have seen dyed long tentacle anemones and leathers in
the past. Usually its 1 color and nothing like this.

Also, he had a few different ones with green and yellow, but this was the only
rainbow one. I'm stumped because it is an anemone that he reached out to various
sources and could not identify. Enclosed is a pic that he just sent me.
The red in it is not as intense. Thank you again.

Did you find it strange that the colors are different from the original.
<I don't find it unusual at all; red does fade more quickly; and take a close
look around the mouth... colorless, and the various parts of the capitulum...
Inconsistent; painted w/ a brush to dye it.>

Anemone identification 3/21/18
Hello crew, I am hoping you can assist me in identifying 2 recent
hitchhiker anemones I have received this past week. Both came on Zoa/Paly
colonies/frags but from 2 very different sources.
As you can see both are small (for the moment at least), very similar in size to
a Zoanthid. Both are green.
Anemone 1 has these striking green spots on it's 'stalk', and has actually moved
a great deal since being added.
Anemone 2 (there are actually 3 of them on the same frag) has not moved at all.
Someone has suggested to me anemone 2 may be a young Epycistis crucifer but I
also wouldn't be surprised if it is something more 'pesty'.
Both are very aggressive eaters, but don't seem to have much of a harmful sting.
Either way I rather like them, I am mostly interested on your opinion of whether
either is going to pose any problems for me in the future.
<The first... I swear I've seen something like this... w/ the spots of
different color on the pedicle; but don't see in my ref.s here. Have you gone
through the many Anemone ID FAQs on WWM? The second, due to the relegation of
tentacles to the edge, striations from the mouth, am thinking is another

gotten through them all yet Haha
I did see one photo that looked like 'anemone 2' but couldn't find the enquiry
that went along with it.

Bob, I looked through all 40 some odd pages of anemone ID on WWM and did not
find an answer.

I did see some very similar ones to anemone 2, most being called majano by your
team, but I'm not convinced.

Either way I believe it will likely become invasive so I will keep an eye on it.
As for anemone 1, nothing came up in the ID pages. I did post it to a couple
saltwater Facebook groups and someone suggested Anthopleura xanthogrammica.
<Nah; we have this species and A. elegantissima off the (Calif.) coast; I did a
histological study of the latter in college; and always look for the "Giant
Green Anemone" when I am up the coast (gets much larger northward)>
After some further reading and research I think it is very likely to be an
Anthopleura but I am more leaning toward Anthopleura sola.
What do you think?
<Lo dudo; this may well be an Actiniid, but A. sola is a coldwater animal found
in about the same range as the other two congeners mentioned here; Baja Ca. and
points northwest... It's a coldwater organism. Don't see how
it would find its way onto a tropical Zoanthid colony rock. Bob Fenner>

Ah ok, I guess it rules that out!
Maybe as the anemone gets bigger (if it gets bigger!) I will get a better idea
of an ID by it's size and reproductive/colonizing behaviour.

Since posting this photo on Facebook for ID purposes I have had 5 or 6 offers to
purchase it! Haha.
