Pygocentrus piraya (Cuvier 1816), the San Francisco Piranha. South
America; endemic to the Sao Francisco Basin of Brazil. To nearly thirteen
inches in length (largest true Piranha).

Pimelodus pictus Steindachner 1876, the
Pictus Cat, often mis-labeled as Pimelodella angelicus in
the hobby/trade. THE most commonly offered Pimelodid catfish for
aquarists by far. South America: Amazon and Orinoco River basins.
To 11 cm. (a bit over four inches) in length. Water Conds: pH 6-8,
DH 5-19, temp. 22-25. Other than eating small tankmates by night,
dying from easily caught ich, this fish will literally eat you out
of house and home with its high-energy movements.

Toxotes chatareus (Hamilton 1822), the
(Seven) Spotted Archerfish. Widespread in the tropical eastern
Indian Ocean and western Pacific; Sri Lanka, India, New Guinea,
northern Australia. Mangrove swamps into freshwater rivers and
streams. To sixteen inches in length, a pound and a half in weight.
A food fish in some places. The second most (and these two are
about it) species imported.
