Sparisoma atomarium (Poey 1861), the Greenblotch Parrotfish. To ten inches in length. Tropical West Atlantic. At right: Some initial and secondary phase individuals in the seagrass beds in about twenty feet of water off of Cozumel.

The caption suggests all three fish are Sparisoma atomarium. Only the fish at lower left is. The other two fish which have two white horizontal stripes and the black spot behind the gill are juveniles of Sparisoma aurofrenatum.

Sparisoma aurofrenatum (Valenciennes 1840), the Redband Parrotfish. Western Atlantic; Bermudas to Brazil. To eleven inches in length. An occasional pet-fish import. Does as well as any other Parrotfish... i.e. not well in captivity. Juvenile in Cozumel 4/09

Stegastes diencaeus (Jordan & Rutter 1897), the Longfin Damsel. Tropical west Atlantic. To five inches in length. Occasionally imported and sold as juveniles. Adults an overall brown with dark margins on all scales. Cozumel 4/09

Stegastes leucostictus (Muller & Troschel 1848), the Beau Gregory Damsel. Tropical west Atlantic. To almost three inches in length. A standard in the trade, coming out of the Atlantic though feisty toward other fish livestock. Juvenile in Cozumel.
