Pomacentrus coelestis
Jordan & Starks 1901, one of the Neon Damsels. To three and a
half inches in length. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific, and a common
import. This is a feisty damselfish species, best kept as the only
Damsel type in a tank, and allowing a good fifteen gallons plus per
specimen. Fiji |
|
Plectroglyphidodon dickii (Lienard 1839),
the Blackbar Devil. To four or so inches in length. Indo-Pacific;
East Africa to the Tuamotus. This one in Fiji. Associated with
Acropora, Pocillopora spp. corals. Feeds on filamentous algae,
benthic crustaceans, small fishes. |
|
Pseudocheilinus evanidus Jordan &
Evermann 1903, the Pin-Striped or Striated Wrasse (2). I like this
fish's other common names, the Disappearing or Vanishing Wrasse
for its bashfulness. To a grand size of three inches. Indo-Pacific,
including Red Sea and Hawai'i. Fiji |

Forster's or Freckled
Hawkfish, Paracirrhites forsteri (Schneider 1801). With a
body marked by dark spots on the front half and horizontal bands on
the rear. This species can be testy and eat goldfish near their
full length of almost nine inches, so be careful when purchasing a
larger one. Indo-Pacific. Fiji |
