Scolymia cubensis (Milne Edwards and Haime 1849). Septa in 2,3
orders as spikes, pick-shapes; and convex or flat (rarely concave)
centers. Fleshy; with lines radiating from center outward. Found in the
Caribbean and off of Brazil. Bonaire 2019. |

Mycetophyllia lamarckiana, Ridged Cactus,
Large Cactus, Fungus Coral. Colonies as flat, wavy-edged plates.
Ridges fleshy, don't extend to centers, and don't interconnect. Wide,
shallow valleys, usually fleshy. Color variable: browns, greens, grays.
6-12 inches in diameter. Bonaire 2019. |

Parazoanthus (now Umimayacanthus) parasiticus, the Sponge
Zoanthid. Small (1/8" diameter) brown to yellowish brown to greenish tentacled polyps,
with darkened centers,
embedded in sponges... here in 2019 in Bonaire on/in a Red Boring Sponge,
Cliona delatrix. |
